Export to Spreadsheet (HDL) data

I am more curious then anything but when I export a ACadE 2006 drawing to a spreadsheet many things get populated. The one that I am clueless about is (HDL) column.

What do the codes mean exactly?

I know that I am warned about changing them, I am very curious about their usage.

Thanks.

It appears to be the autocad HANDLE for the object. The autocad glossary lists HANDLE as "A unique alphanumeric tag for an object in the program’s database." Try the LIST command on any block within your drawing and you will see a list of properties. In that list, HANDLE will be near the top. it should match the number listed in the HDL column in your spreadsheet. I tried it on one of my projects and found this to be true for the blocks that I checked.

Mr. BDETUNCQ is exactly right. AcadE pulls the handle of the object
(schematic component, panel footprint, wire number, or whatever the
spreadsheet is dealing with) and the drawing name into the spreadsheet. It
uses these two fields to then find the original source object when you want
to have edited spreadsheet data get written back to the drawing files. If
you edit either of these "key" fields, then AcadE loses its ability to map
back to the specific drawing and object.
