Edit Footprint dialog options greyed out

When trying to assign item numbers to a component my search options for the drawing are greyed out. Project search options are not, but trying to use them will cause AE2009 to hang indefinately. See the attached jpg...
If I open my project under AE2008 I have no problems. Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks!
Omar
Hope this helps!

The Find and List for the drawing are disabled due to a project setting
related to Item Numbering. Your Item Numbering is set to accumulate project
wide. Right-click on your project, select Project Settings, go to the
Component tab, select Item Numbering. I have attached a screen shot. This is
the default setting for this new option added in AcadE 2009. It will
Find/List these across the proejct set, including the active drawing if it
is part of the project.

The Next>> button is disabled when it already has an item number defined I
believe.

Hi Pat,

The check box you indicated was checked. I still get the feeling something else is affecting the Item number assignments. Apart from being grayed out, if I select Project Find/List, AE hangs indefinitely and task mgr is the only way out. Also, if the item is already assigned in the database it doesn't seem to acknowledge the item even if I re-select it from the default catalog. I might get the assigned item number or nothing (NEXT is also grayed out.
I'm getting more "gray" on figuring this one out...

If you can provide steps to reproduce a particular issue, please upload the
project file and drawings with the steps. Or you can send them directly to
me at pat.murnen@autodesk.com.

Thanks,

After checking the drawings/project you sent directly to me, I found that
the WD_PNLM block, which ACadE uses to save the Panel Configuration
settings, had some incorrect xdata on it. Somehow it had xdata indicating it
was a footprint and it has an item number xdata. Once this was removed
(using Projects->Extras->Xdata Editor) the Project List/Find worked.
