Drawing List Reports and Sub-Assemblies

We are using ACADE 2008. We are trying to break down our project schematic into sub-assemblies within a project. For example, sub-assembly numbers begin with 610 for project overview index, 611 for power distribution, 612 - 618 for individual cabinets, robots and other systems. For each sub-assembly it will have it's own Index Sheet at the beginning.

I run the Drawing List Report for a sub-assembly and put it on a drawing the fist sub-assembly index sheet just fine. The problem is that when I run the report for any of the following sub-assemblies, it overwrites the table on the first index sheet. This happens regardless of what sheet I am currently on when I run the report.

Short of running the report, copying the table and pasting it on a non-project drawing, then running the report for the next sub-assembly and copying the table and pasting it on a non-project drawing, then running the report for the next sub-assembly and copying the table and pasting it on a non-project drawing, then running the report for the next sub-assembly and etc.... I cannot find a way to make this work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

On the Table Generation Setup dialog, select Insert New (non-updatable) if
you don't want the table updated each time the report is run. If you do want
it to still update under certain circumstances you can use a Format .set
file to make the report table unique within a report.

AcadE uses 3 things to know if a report is being re-run (and the table
should be overwritten), or if it is a new report (and a new table inserted).
If all 3 match then the report table is overwritten with a new one.

1) the report itself, in this case Drawing List Report
2) the scope of the report, draing vs. project, in this case project is only
one avaialble
3) the format .set file which in your case I am guessing you don't specify a
.set file so the default of DWGLST.SET is used if it exists. If you want you
could create multiple copies of the .set file, one for each sub-assembly.
Then the report tables are still updatable if you run the report again with
the same .set file. If the DWGLST.SET exists just copy it to another name
for each report you run. If it doesn't exist, run the report, go into Change
Report Format and click OK+Save As and provide a name. Then copy this one to
new names for each report.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the fast response Pat. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to edit the dwglst.set except with notepad. I don't understand the file well enough to make the right changes to it. Also, I cannot find the Table Generation Setup dialog to select New (non-updatable). A search in the Help file did not help me either.

While we are at it, I have attempted adding a new attribute to the drawing list report, REV, that exists in my title block. So far, I cannot get it to match the value in the attribute. It is giving me the value of another attribute altogether.

Thanks for you help Pat.

Scott, when you run the report and then select Put on Drawing, the big
dialog that comes up is the Table Generation dialog. In the upper left is
the Table section. The second radio button down is the Insert New
(non-updatable) option. To find this in the Help, go to Reports -> Generate
Reports -> Quick Reference tab -> Table generation setup.

Also, if you want to create a .set file you don't have to edit one. Just run
the report, select Change Report Format and from the dialog that appears
select OK+Save As. This will create the .set file for you. Or if you just OK
out it will save the settings as the report's default .set file (in this
case DWGLST). Once created, if you want more you don't need to edit the
settings within it, just copy it to a new name and use it. AcadE is just
looking at the file name to see if it is a unique .set file for the report.

As far as the REV, you probably have an existing DWGLST.SET file that is
obsolete now that you've added the REV. You need to delete it (in user
folder) and let AcadE recreate it automatically. If you run the report,
don't pick the Format button on the initial dialog. Then when the report
shows, pick Change Report Format and then add the REV and whatever fields
you want to see, the DWGLST.SET is saved automatically as the default name.

Thanks Pat. I simply was not going far enough in my search for the non-updatable button. This is going to work. Thanks again.
