Corrupted program?

I am getting an odd situation when I try to go to the "Layer Properties Manager". If I choose the "Layer Properties Manager" button on the toolbar or type in "Layer" on the command line, AutoCAD locks up until I press the ESC key.

Does this mean that I need to uninstall and reinstall or could this just mean that a particular file needs adjustment or replacement?

More info needed.... does this happen on just one particular drawing file or
does it happen on any drawing? If single drawing, does the AutoCAD AUDIT
command clean up the problem?

Thanks for the help.
Yes it occurs with any drawing.
I tried AutoCAD Audit, but it didn't find any errors and the problem still exists.
--------------
Command: AUDIT
Fix any errors detected? [Yes/No] : y
3 Blocks audited
Pass 1 233 objects audited
Pass 2 233 objects audited
Pass 3 300 objects audited
Total errors found 0 fixed 0
--------------

If I select the "Layer Properties Manager" toolbar button, it locks up and nothing appears on the command line. If I hit ESC, the following appears
--------------
Command: '_layer
--------------

If I right click on the toolbar and choose "Customize...", AutoCAD also locks up and nothing appears on the command line. It won't clear on ESC for this command, but does for ALT-F4. The following line then appears
--------------
Command: _.CUI
--------------

I haven't found any other toolbar items that won't work so far.

I don't know if this information provides any benefit in solving the problem, but when I start AutoCAD, the following items appear on the Command window.
--------------
Customization file loaded successfully. Customization Group: ACADE

I passed your question on to folks much more knowledgable on this... here's
what came back:

Resetting the profile "fixes" the issue.. I've gotten a couple calls on this
issue. It happens, more often on laptops, where they go from a dual-monitor
setup down to a single monitor.

They may have to remove the CUIs and do a repair from the CD.

I do have a laptop and I did use dual monitor for a time period so the comments match my situation.

Thanks for the help.
