Catalog check not showing description

In ACE 2005:
I'll insert a terminal block (schematic symbol) and assign a catalog number from the database. After that (while still in the edit terminal dialog) I hit "catalog check" and no description comes up, just qty, catalog number, and MFG.

I tried to duplicate this issue but was unable to but I do remember a
similar issue that was caused by the User fields being filled in and the
Miscellaneous fields not being filled in that caused the Description field
to not show up. I did have Acade 2005 SP1 installed, not sure if that could
be the difference.

If you could supply a little more information I might be able to duplicate
the issue. If possible, could you go into the Catalog Lookup like you are
going to assign a catalog number and highlight the catalog number in
question and select the 'Edit' button. This will bring up the 'Edit Catalog
Record' dialog. Capture this dialog and post it to this Newsgroup. I can
then set my terminal record catalog number up just like yours and see if I
can then duplicate the issue.

Thanks,

Steve

Well, I could still not duplicate it but I did notice something. On the
Bill of Material Check dialog graphic you posted, there is no path to the
database listed in the dialog title as there is on mine seen in attachment.
This could mean 2 things:

1) The Catalog Check is for some reason unable to find the defect_cat.mdb
file. Do you have an alternate catalog database set up for your Acade or is
your database located on a network drive?
2) The catalog number listed in the Edit dialog can not be found when the
Catalog Check is ran. I duplicated your issue by adding a space to the end
of the catalog number in the Terminals dialog and then hit the Catalog Check
button. It tried to find an exact match in the database, '1532050000 '
(space as last character in catalog number), and could not, so the Bill of
Material Check dialog listed only what it knew, the manufacture and the
catalog number. It did not list the path to the database in the title, and
it did not list the Table in the database the record was found in. So you
might check for either a space in the catalog number in the Terminals dialog
and also check for a space in the record in the database.

If there are no leading or trailing spaces in either of these, let me know
and I will try and think of something else that might cause this.

One thing I forgot to add was that there are other drawings in the project that use the same terminal block and I don't have this issue.

Is there a way that you could get me the drawing that this is happening in?
This could have something to do with the drawing. I have seen issues before
that would cause an error on a specific drawing and not others depending on
what is on the drawing and/or how that drawing is specifically configured.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

I was able to correct the problem by replacing the terminal symbol with a new one however, there are still other terminals on the drawing that have the same problem.
At the bottom of the drawing, 3 terminals have the problem:
(2) 1706060000
(1) 1632080000

Thanks, this was what I needed. I have duplicated the issue and found out
why it is not displaying the description in the Catalog Check. There is
xdata (invisible data similar to attributes) being placed on these blocks
called VIA_WD_WDBLKNAM that contains the name of the inserted block. If
this data is present on the block the descriptions are not showing up in the
Catalog Check. You can look at this data by going to the Projects pull-down
menu and selecting 'Extras->Xdata Editor' and then select on the block.

I have yet to figure out what is causing this data to be placed on these
block and why this is causing the descriptions not to show up, but we are
heading in the right direction now.

You can remove this xdata from the block if you like using the Xdata Editor
and then the Catalog Check will show the descriptions. This would be a
work-around for now. I will see if I can come up with something else
though.

I did not experience this problem until I swapped the HT0_01 blocks with the HT0W01 blocks with the swap/update block tool. I don't know if that would cause the problem.

I tried the Swap Block and that did not seem to add the xdata in question,
but that does not mean in some situations it doesn't add it. I found a
command in Acade 2006 that sometimes add this xdata and other times does
not. I am not sure what the criteria is for adding this and I have not
found another work-around other then the one I gave you.

I have logged this as an issue and passed it along to the developers.
