Cable Marker

Hi,
I am using ACE2009. I frequently use the "Cable with shield". I find this under Insert Component | Miscellaneous | Cable Markers. I believe that inserting this component runs a command called "wd_cblshld_bld 1". For a three wire cable, this inserts blocks HW01_1 (top wire), HW02_1B (middle wire), HW02_1 (bottom wire).

The default TAG1 and FAMILY attribute for the parent wire marker (HW01_1) is "CBL", so unless I type in a TAG1 value manually, all my cables are labeled CBL1, CBL2, etc.

I would like create an exact copy of this "Cable with shield" that would behave exactly like the original, but that would give me a different sequence of tagnames (for example X1, X2, X3, etc).

When inserting cable markers, i would then like to have a choice whether I insert a CBL1, CBL2 style cable marker or a X1, X2 style cable marker.

I assume that I have to create copies of symbols HW01_1, HW02_1, and HW02_1B, and then change the TAG1 and FAMILY default values to "X". I can't seem to find any information as to what filenames I should use for my new symbols. Also, I have no idea if I need to do anything with the command file "wd_cblshld_bld 1" to allow me to use my new symbols.

Can anyone tell me if what I am trying to do is possible? If so, if you could give me a hint how to do it or point me towards somewhere I can find an explanation, i would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Paul Kraemer

Paul,

I couldn't find this documented I am afraid. I will log this so it is
documented.

Here is what I think will work -

What you have said is true for the shield where the markers are connected
with a straight line, i.e. don't cross in the middle. HW01_2, HW02_2B,
HW02_2 would be the set used where the connecting lines are drawn crossed.

So, if you want to add a set that don't cross, name your symbols the same
but add a suffix after the _1 part (except a B). As long as it has the
HW0#_1 it should work. So the top symbol could be HW01_1P and the bottom
symbol would be HW02_1P. The middle symbol used would be the same, HW02_1B.

I didn't try this but I think I would then use the command "wd_cblshld_bld
1P". If this doesn't work let me know and I will actually try this and test
it.
