Back-up using XP built in zip program

Is there a way to back-up your project using the compact.exe program that comes built into windows xp? Winzip is no longer unlimited and you have to pay after 45 days. My 45 days are up and I need to zip back-up my projects.

Here is some information from the Help topic on setting this up -
Initial Configuration
1.. Edit the .env file to point to the zip utility.
2.. Create an entry for the utility labeled WD_ZIP followed by a comma and
then the full path name to the executable zip program. For example,
WD_ZIP,c:\Program Files [(x86)]\winzip\winzip32.exe.
So I would think you could point to this function.

Hope this helps,
Pat Murnen

Thanks Pat, but Im a step ahead of that. Windows XP has a built in program called compact.exe. When I do like you said and enter its path after the wd_zip, it doesn't zip the files correctly. My IT guy says I need to enter in some sort of special command prompt but the ones that I tried dont wont.

I tried this for my wd_zip, line:

C:\windows\system32\compact.exe -and-
C:\windows\system32\compact.exe c/

I was hoping somebody else knew how to get this program running with the wd_zip command since its free.

Is this a utility that creates a file containing the "zipped" files or is it
just a utility that compresses (i.e. compacts) files "in place". If you drop
down to the DOS window and type "compact /?" [Enter], you get the list of
command line parameters. But I don't see one that allows the selected files
to be output to a unique file name. It seems to be that these files are
"compacted" in place. Donno...

You're barking up the wrong tree my friend, do the research first.
Just buy Winzip or find a freebie or cheaper similar products at sites
like download.com or snapfiles.com:

*Compact.exe - A nice tool designed to permit the user to compress
files or folders.
This application acts like a command line and uses parameters to run.
If you type compact.exe at command prompt, you will get information
about the status of the current directory, whether it is compressed or
not.
To use it, you need to add parameters that can be found by typing
compact.exe /?
