Automated Script

Can someone please remind me how I go about running a Conversion Tool command script throughout my entire project?

Namely Special Explode.

Regards,

KC.

Run the script from Project-wide Utilities.

Thanks, again Doug!

But what is the script for the special explode command or where can I find it?

Kind Regards,

KC.

Hi K.C. You have to create a script. It is basically a text file ending in .SCR. You enter the commands as you would at the command line prompt. End each line with a space bar to represent pressing enter. If you have not written scripts before you might want to practice one or two. There is a sample in the help menu. See the attached screen shot from Electrical Help.

Special Explode is actually a lisp utility. You will need to load and execute it from within the script and set the window parameters so it finds all blocks on the drawing. I will post a script file in a separate post.

Attached is a script file a created for you. It has parameters set to special explode everything from coordinates 0.4,0.5 to 30,22 on a D-size sheet. You will need to adjust those coordinates to capture the objects you wish to explode. Be sure to keep the coordinates inside your border or you might accidentally explode your border and lose the title block information.

I cannot post a fle with the .SCR extension due to security protocols on this forum. I will post it with a .zip extension. Just rename it to specialexplode.scr after downloading and it should work fine.

Be careful when editing the script. There is a space bar at the end of the line and a return. These are necessary. You cannot see them but your cursor can find them. All you should really need to do is move your crosshair around inside your drawing and select the start and end coordinates for the select objects window and replace my coordinates with what you find. Test this on one drawing by typing SCR at the command line and browsing to wherever you saved the script file. If it works correctly you can try editing drawing entities and you will notice that they are all just dumb lines, circles, rectangles, and text. Execute from the project-wide utilities under the project manager fly-out to special explode all drawings in a project.

Thanks again, life saver!!!!

I have never dealt with command scripts before, I can see it is something that I going to have to learn a lot more about. It does the job, but as my boss pointed out, you do lose all the layers as you explode..is this right?

Thanks in advance,

KC.

Not sure what to tell you. I uploaded the file with a .zip extension
because we cannot upload a .scr to this site. Just download the file and
rename the .zip to .scr and run it.

Not sure what happened but got it working now!

Thanks again,

Ps - You do not lose your layers as I have discovered!

Layers cannot be exploded. But that should not matter. There is nothing
intelligent about a layer name. The WD_M block contains wildcard type
entries to pick up the layers that are to be treated as wires.
