    view contours

I have a surface with a bunch of contours. I want to view the contours at elevation 550. In Microstation there is a set display depth command. Is there a tool in autocad where I can view certain elevations.

I want to make layouts/viewports that are clipped to different elevations. For example I have a surface with 5' contours. I want to create multiple viewports on a sheet showing what each contour looks like at its elevation.

there is a user defined contour setting in the surface style under the analysis tab.   You can define as many of these as you like and specify the elevations.

There is thta view dohickey that changes display concentration based on zoom level, but I think you'll need a surface display style to control the contours you want to see.

Others have pointed you in the right direction but I just gotta ask, Why are you doing this? I've never heard of anyone c reating viewports clipped to the extents of specific elevations before. What kind of project is this? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything like that, I'm truly curious.

We are showing plan sections of an earthen dam embankment. It was requested. I don't think is is going to be dynamically possible so we may have to explode the surface or try the user defined contours. Maybe that will allow one to turn off individual layers in the viewport.

I have done this a lot for design. I view certain contours intervals to find boundaries needed. Is there a way to clip views based on elevations in AutoCAD?
