I have a plan set that includes old and new information, The new information I want to print black, but the old area I want to print in grey, the plan set is many pages with many base files.

Is there a way to put some sort of color blocking on my sheet set to have any lines within an area to print as color x and any lines outside to color as  normal?

Ie a color override layer or color override box.

If anyone does graphics design I am thinking of something like a layer mask with a grey filter setting.

and if this isnt possible a different strategy to completing this.

Tis can easily be done using paper space viewports and the layer overrides per viewport.

Hmm, I looked into this a bit but was kind of confused, you know of a good key word to search for help or you willing to make a work flow I can take a look at?

Just switch to paper space, layout1 or whatever it's called. Make a viewport if you don't already gave one. Double click inside the viewport so your cursor is "in model space". This is not possible if your cursor is not within the viewport.

Then ipen the layer manager and look for the "VP..." Type properties. VP Color, VP Freeze etc. Then adjust as required.

This takes care of the viewport stuff but I think you want to have the colors normal except for an area in the middle, correct? You'll need 2 viewports for this; one big one that has a hole in it and a smaller one to fill that hole.

To make the viewport with a hole:
Make 2 closed features (polylines, circles, whatever); one for the outer and one for the inner. Use the REGION command and turn the into regions. Use the SUBTRACT command and remove the smaller from the bigger. Then use the MVIEW command and select the region object. You'll have a viewport with a hole in it.

I think im starting to track what you are saying

I currently have 1 viewport in my layout, this is colored the same as model space (vp color) and prints correctly for an entire page.

I want that to only print normal colors  for the small section of the page, the rest of the page, I want to have an override on the print color to have it grey out each of the lines a certain percent. I currently have all the lines on many vp colors (which then sets the vp plot style)

If I create a second Viewport, will I then have essentially 2 vp color and 2 vp line ect in my layers?

For each viewport you will have one set of VP... properties.

I'll attach a video soon.  If your viewports aren't aligned like mine (donut in the middle) you can ignore the region and subtract commands and just have 2 regular viewports.
