pay item corridor code --> metric and english unit of measure

By mistake I used a metric unit of measure in a couple pay item files and english is a couple other. The model space unit is english (imperial) and I have a spreadsheet bill of material in metric. Initially, the payitems were in english units to match the model space unit and I converted the unit in the bill of material. There was some rework and missing items so after working in metric I created a couple short payItem lists but absentmindedly used a metric unit of measure. Is this a problem? Does Civil 3D convert if a metric unit of measure is used?

so I tested a pay item file with m2, sy, and sf and this is what I found:

  • 813.53m2 –> 8,756.77sf or 813.53sy - this is exactly 2x the english value
  • 486.48sy
  • 4378.36sf –> 486.48sy OK or 406.76m2

What?

I did another test: With a flat roadway section that is easy to check with a hand calc, I used the analyze inquiry area tool and a payItem file with m2, sy, and sf. The result:

For the roadway section everything checks out

  • Inquiry analysis area 6,026sf ~6,122sf
  • 568.77m2 = 6,122sf = 680sy
  • 6,122.16sf
  • 680.24 sy
