out of memory connecting to DEM C3D 2011

So I guess I'll just use ArcGIS to create my contours from a DEM since I get the fatal error:smileysurprised:ut of memory anytime i connect to or attempt to create surface from a DEM.  Arcview doesn't have any problem whatsoever doing what I need to do.  Going to enable the 3GB switch soon to try it out.  In the past I would use Land Desktop 2008 to create surfaces and contours from DEM, but it's no longer on my machine.  Any new tricks to get around this problem?

3GB switch is a good start. Upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit with more memory likely would help.
