I opened a dwg and made an alignment in it but there are no tick marks on
it. I went through the alignment styles and see no place to set it.
i can open the tutorial dwgs and tick marks are there. Any suggestions how
to get them to show? Thanks, alex

Alex,
That is actually part of the Station Label Style. Start a drawing from the
_Autodesk Civil 3D Imperial ByStyle.dwt and expand the Alignment, Major
Station label collection. There is a style in there called "Parallel with
Tick". If you edit that label style and the select the Layout tab you will
see a Component called the "Tick". That is a label style which already has
the tick. If you want to add the tick, drop down that control next to the
component name field and you will see "Tick" in that list.
