I played with it this morning and I'm already not a big fan of it.  Personally, I would rather use grading groups.

I've not actually played in it yet, but I watched the videos. I hope this is indicative of where Civil 3D is headed because I believe it's much more intuitive and requires the user to learn less about the software so they can spend more time designing. I am also excited about the work flow and the impact that the use of solids should have on final deliverables.

The introduction video was a tad long in the tooth after working 12 hours, but I'll give it  a closer look with fresh eyes.

I did get a kick out of the Ytube description:

The Interactive Terrain Shaping technology preview provides users with a unique workflow for developing grading proposals in AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2012 software. The primary goal of this effort is to provide a holistic approach to terrain shaping that allows users to go from concept to completion using the same model. The intent is to facilitate the development of comprehensive grading plans that can be easily tuned through the project cycle

Holistic approach? I usually reserve that phrase for tooth-aches, and other medicinal remidies suggested by my Micro -Biotic - Vegan friends, not grading Ideas from Autodesk.

Here's a thought! While in the lab, how about working on the current grading tools. :smileyhappy:

I'll be installing later today and will look at the videos etc over the next day or so - it looks interesting

I'd also agree with Joe on grading tools - perhaps the inherent bugginess has been ironed out now and crash/bug free grading tools will be in C3D 2013 (Oops!!! just drifted off into dreamland then......)

I know it's become a buzz-word for certain types of pharmacology. But the usage does fit.

    ho·lis·tic  /hōˈlistik

    Adjective:

Characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately
interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

    Guys

I loaded it on to my work pc that 64 bit yesterday and had a bit of a play yesterday and today at lunch time

Crashed it once most likely because I did my own original workflow not the programmers. Generally I like the concept as grading is all about 3d planes and intersections i like the object based solution. I will continue to play with it when I can at worK as only have 32 bit at home:smileysad:

Would like to give constructive feedback to Autodesk but its unclear where you post it other than here or to some email at the labs.

    Regards

Typed "Define Holistic" in  Google. It was at the top of the page. Looks like they have their own dictionary now.
