Surface Contour Display - Weeding Contour Line?

Is it possible to weed contour lines displayed in a surface based on the slope?  I am having an issue plotting construction plans due to steep cut slopes and flat adjacent areas.  I have several cuts ranging from 33%-50% adjacent to flat areas around 1%.  Due to the drawing scale required by the client and the .2FT and 1FT contours required to detail the flat areas, my steep cuts appear as dark hatches due to the tight contour lines.  Any suggestions?

When I have had to tackle this issue what I did was:

    1. Copy the surface. Now I have Surface 1 (the original) and Surface 2.

    2. Create a polyline around the area of concern (where the contours are overly dense.)

    3. Define that polyline as a hide boundary for Surface 1 and as the Outer boundary for Surface 2.

    4. Apply a style that shows .2 and 1' contours for Surface 1 and a different style that shows 2' and 10' contours (or whatever fits your needs) for surface 2.

You end up with two surfaces, which sorta sucks, but it gets the job done.

    Best regards,
