I want to create a new custom linetype and edit the acad.lin in Notepad. Instead of saving over the original file, I did a save as, but Notepad can only save it as .txt file, not .lin. Whenever I go to load the new linetype file (which is in .txt), it doesn't recognize it, and only shows the .lin files. How do I save .lin file in Notepad?

I'm using windows 7 and notepad can save as .lin if you type it in before saving. Maybe that is not true of older versions, but in that case I would just rename the file in the windows explorer folder.

I'm using Window XP. How do you modify the extension of the file? I tried adding ".lin" at the end of the name of the file, hoping it'll change to LIN type file, but it remained as a txt file as <filename.lin>.txt.

Right click the file in windows explorer, delete the txt and replace with lin. You will probably get a message/warning pop-up asking you if are sure you want to change the file type, click yes/ok.

Thanks! I also figured out that my problem is more of a window question on how to show the extension file in the filename. Once i figured out how do that, it was easy breezy. Thanks for responding to my issue!!!

when saving the file from notepad, you can also save the file with the ".lin" extension by selecting to save it as "ALL FILES" as the save type, instead of the default ".txt" type (see attachment)
