I'm still in 2011, so is it possible I just don't have it? Either that or the template wasn't from OOTB, or it was purged out.

Where do I find my OOTB templates? I imagine they're somewhere on my C drive, but last time I went looking I couldn't find them.

You could do a search of your C: drive for *.dwt. But to make it easier, I'll attach the block.

I did that search last time, turned up loads of templates for the tutorials, but couldn't find the regular old simple template.

This would be one path you could find them in. I've kept the custom ones on the server for so long I had to do a search to find them myself.

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\C3D 2012\enu\Template\
