AutoCAD Civil 3D

I have cut sheets following my alignment. I would like the mleaders I place in model space to be at zero rotation when I go to the individual sheets. Works fine for text if I check the "Match text orientation to Layout" box, but not for the mleaders. Is there a setting I am missing?

I see your question has not been answered. You might want to post this to the AutoCAD group as Mleader is a core AutoCAD feature not related to Civil 3D specifically.

Hi,

Unfortunately at this time the "Match orientation to layout" property is only available for blocks and text objects with annotative scaling properties.

Maybe someone here has a LISP or other work around available.

Create a named UCS based on the rotation of each sheet . Set that UCS current then type plan at the command line and enter twice. The drawing will zoom extents. Zoom back into the sheet extents and create a named view that matches the sheet name/number. Make sure the UCS is set to the appropriate sheet rotation (should default if it's the current UCS). Now switch between named views as needed to place mleaders at the proper rotation.

As a Registered Professional Land Surveyor, I completely understand your concern about using a UCS other than World. I felt the same way for many years myself and I still cringe at the thought of newbies using a UCS. In this case, I purposely set the UCS so that 0,0 is at the bottom right corner of my sheet viewport extents. Since our drawings are typically in the TX83-CF (3 million, 10 million) coordinate system, we know right away if a drawing has a UCS set to something other than World when we xref it into a drawing. 

Another reason I'm more comfortable using a UCS other than world is because any coordinates annotated in the drawing are done through a Civil 3D label or note style, not AutoCAD.

We also create a Named View called World that sets the view to the extents of the project and the UCS to World.

DISCLAIMER: It is my personal opinion that using a UCS other than World is not the best solution for everyone, but it should be a consideration for this particular scenario.

Tom, those of us who do tech support for a living, sometimes, for expedience, tend to tell everyone, "Don't use UCS." It removes a big variable out of the support equation, makes our job easier, but I agree with you, when someone knows what they're doing, UCS us a wonderful tool. It's just so easy for a less experienced user to really mess things up ...

Alternate method:

Draw an mleader in paperspace. Use chspace to send it to modelspace of the sheet. Switch to modelspace and select the automatically rotated and scaled mleader. Copy/paste to the original base file. Copy/paste this sample mleader to other locations in the drawing and edit the text and text location as needed.
