We have an issue with an existing project. When opening the cross sections the existing pipes and surface are no longer connected to the project. The Data Shortcut connection seems to be correct. How do we reconnect the surface and pipe networks to the cross sections?

You could start by using the Data Shortcut Editor to check you have the current path in the shortcut file.
You could also try to Validate the shortcuts to see if there are any problems.
If everything is OK. Synchronize may bring things back.

I tried both with no success. when I validate the Data shortcuts the following message comes up.
Shortcuts-C62628DB-2B31-4347-97EB-BC992BF81F3D)
Validated 78 of 78 shortcuts.
The data shortcut folder should be as shown below.

It looks to me like you may want to consider the possibility that the objects got deleted. There doesn't seem to be any problems with the data shortcuts.
