Geotechnical Module Stability in 2014

Anyone having stability issues with the Geotech module in 2014?

Seems it takes forever to respond to changing styles/views/visual styles etc and Civil 3D goes into the classic dimmed screen and "Not Responding" mode

We have been made aware of some performance issues with Civil 3D when the Geotechnical Module is installed and are working diligently to resolve them. In the meantime, in order to mitigate these performance issues with Civil 3D we are recommending that you uninstall the Geotechnical Module until we release an updated installer on Subscription.

Thank you for your patience.

My geotechnical program doesn't seem to be functioning in either 2013 or 2014.

I had it installed on 2014 then added the 2013 version not sure if that broke the 2014 version as I'm not really using it in anger yet.

I've tried it in 2013 and 2014 and there seems to be issues with both - mainly random crashes when viewing in 3D and changing styles etc.

Not sure that the module is ready for use in anger yet - may have to revert to the Dotsoft solution....!!!!!!

Tried to produce a profile and have run into issues (see attached)

The borehole profile strips are some 3000 m to the left of the ground profile and the profile strips do not have a borehole number to identify them and although this may be definable in the style I can't see how to do it.

Is this for real?

Is this a real Autodesk person speaking about an upcoming fix or correction? I don't see the logo you were harping about to me to "always" look for.

Is this a C3D team member "that doesn't hang out here" like you were trying to convince below?

..I have read your posts in several threads on this issue in the forums. You do know that this is primarily a peer to peer discussion board and almost none of the team members hang out in here with regularity.

Even if you ran one down they could not tell you about any upcoming patches or fixes corrections etc. Autodesk being a publicly traded company and all.

Just trying to say there are better venues if you are trying to make sure the team knows about it.

Thanks

My understanding is that Jessica Tarr is the Product Specialist for Civil 3D - although whether or not this is the same one I don't know

I am not the Discussion Admin but one of the Product Managers for Civil 3D. My posts will always be signed with my information on the signature line. 🙂

Fred, where did that Discussion Admin post come from?

I have seen a number of comments in the last month or so from people claiming to be from Autodesk lacking the black icon next to their name. All of them had an email address @autodesk in their signature and I have no reason to question that they actually were from Autodesk, but it would be nice if they were made official. I saw one comment. (I think from Discussion_Admin) that a person was in fact from Autodesk but it took a little while for the login account to get registered as such and display the correct icon.

Thats a good point, might be a good idea for product managers et al. to get their AutoDesk status here set up quickly.  Jessica, if you don't mind passing this up your own chain of command the EE's can do the same here to get your AutoDesk status expedited.

Here the link to that is below:

Jessica,

As a Civil 3D Product Manager can you do all of us civil engineers a favor who are trying to generate income using Civil 3D by personally going through the list of "Known Issues" and "Known Defects" that have gone unaddressed through multiple releases of the software?

Just refer and focus on the list of "Known Issues" that continue to be buried in the software.

Will you take this personal responsibility? That is, you be the person holding the list. You be the one to check off the old defects as they are resolved by programming? You be the one to step and follow through for all of your Customers here? We need someone on the Civil 3D team to step and finally DO the Right Thing. The practice of burying known defects in new software is a dishonest one. You do not want to be known and associated with that unethical practice.

Most of these defects go back years now...Maybe you are not aware. For instance QTO defects since 2009; the road rehab subassemblies not coding shapes correctly since 2006, LinktoMarkPoint not working in both 2013 and 2014 now.

There are many others.. these insidious unaddressed defects, that we stumble over constantly and try to work over and around with, negatively affect our companys' bottom lines on a wildly frustrating daily basis.

I just had a Support confirm Drawing Corruption on a drawing for just a 2 mile road widening project right before our Preliminary Submittal due date, that we have been working on for weeks. The two mile length is far less then the 9.3 mile length that the Best Practices section of the Help classifies as a "large project".

This is more evidence that the software you are responsible for releasing to your Customers is not stable enough for rigorous and robust engineering commercial application, where firms are relying on it to generate critical revenue.

Yes they can say they are working on it...Just like support did in this email

The feedback link that goes to the team has been pointed out both in the forums and through support email

Thanks

The employee account has been updated to correctly show the role.

To put this in focus the intent was to get you to post to the feedback portal when you have known issue or statement for the team it gets better results than resurrecting  3 year old threads  looking for old employees.

It's understandable things can get frustrating at times dealing with high end software but these statements were just an attempt to direct your energies to where they are sure to be seen.

Not limit your participation in the forums. My apologies if that was how you took it.

To everyone

If you see a suspected employee without the proper role just use the Report Inappropriate Content button in the thread and moderation will get on it.

Thanks

You seem truly impressed by pulling a three year old thread.

That barely scratches the surface... We have issues and defects that are rolled over year year after, release after release, that we continue to deal with as Customers and users of the software on a daily basis. Issues and defects that were brought forward and have gone unaddressed at least twice as long as the three years you mention. Defects with the Road Rehab subassemblies since 2006.

That specific query for Tom, was an attempt to at least try and generate some real, and effective resolution regarding all the defects in QTO that have gone unaddressed since 2009.

So how can we as Customers who have been deprived of the capabilities of QTO, as marketed to Customers by Autodesk, expect any type of reasonable or timely resolution to this matter.

You do the research, there are numerous threads over the years on this subject.

This was the reason for my research and subsequent query out to Tom, the original architect of QTO.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on these issues. We are working on solutions for issues reported with the Geotechnical Module.

While we are testing these fixes internally, we are looking for some people to test using their own datasets. Please contact me directly if you are interested in participating.

Thanks in advance!

I am using c3d 2013 with the geotechnical module and have a problem with what looks like random borheoles being printed as identified in the attached.

These dont appear in the preview and I havent even loaded any borehole data into this drawing but since I have used the geotech module this seems to have happened.

Has there been anything similar noted or solution advised.

We are pleased to announce the release of Geotechnical Module v1 for both Civil 3D 2013 and Infrastructure Design Suite 2014.

These are now available for download on Subscription Center along with release notes. Please uninstall any previous version of the Geotechnical Module prior to installing Geotechnical Module v1.

Thank you!

Thank you. That's greatly appreciated.

It's a little confusing since the release date on the Subscription site still says 2013-04-29. You have to follow the link to see that it's updated to v1. But otherwise it's fine.
