Creating open-ended parcel for use with mapcheck (need closure)

I hope this will be an easy slam dunk for somebody.

I'd like to use Jeff Mishler's modified parcel mapcheck report output that I just downloaded and installed (http://forums.autodesk.com/autodesk/attachments/autodesk/66/178385/1/Reports2010-2012.zip), but I'm running into a problem that I've known about for a while - how does one use the parcel mapcheck report for the sake of determining closures on a boundary or traverse using either field data or a survey/plan submission?  I recreate a "parcel" using bearings & distances, it will almost NEVER close perfectly.  But for C3D to create a parcel, it needs to, and in this case, what's the point of giving closure data when there is ZERO error?

    What am I missing?

    Thanks!

You need to use the Survey Routines to compute field closure.  The mapcheck and parcel closures are for parcels that are closed perfectly.

It won't necessarily give you a zero closure. If you base the mapcheck on the parcel labels, there will always be some misclosure due to rounding errors.

You need to use Mapcheck from the analysis tab to get a closure by typing in a deed or plan.

Thanks for the replies.  That confirms what I had suspected - errors due to rounding errors OR lines in the wrong direction, and that I need to use the mapcheck through the Analyze ribbon tab, then Survey/mapcheck.

Ok, but now if I wanted to modify the fields that mapcheck outputs to text for this routine (survey), how would I do that?  This is what I was looking for when I came across Mishler's zip file, which I now know only pertains to closed parcel mapcheck reports.

I'd like to remove the northings and eastings from the report along with the deflection angle, and also have it displayed in a more condensed format (default text output has way too much spacing and uses too much paper).  For properties with just a few courses, I can just edit the text file, but when there's a bunch . . .

Is this yet another instance where the user must be familiar with .net or xml or whatever to be able to make this slight tweak?

I regularly use the COGO Editor, It will give you an error in closure, based on a open polyline, and you can also use the different rules to force a new closed polyline.

You can also find this under the analyze tab under the survey dropdown.

Wow . . . I was selecting MapCheck this whole time when the COGO editor you mention was right there.

I like this option much better if for no other reason, the report output is much more concise.

    Thank you.

Yeah, that is nice! Now, as long as no one uses it to "close" a boundary.

The COGO editor does include Compass, Transit, and Crandall (least squares) adjustment options.  Any field traverse will have some error.  By "close a Boundary", do you mean forcing closed a set of courses from a plan/deed/plat?

Yes. That's what I mean. I've seen it done by people who you would hope know better.
