Subtitle: The Rhyme of the Olde Constrainer

I.
Hark ye fellow travelers!
Hear my woeful tale.
Upon a sea of madness
day and night did I travail.

Cursed dragon that I rode
twisted, bucked and wham!
Broken and disheartened
of this quest for sweet yam-yam.

One after one,
by the star-dog-ed moon,
I woke alas to find,
new stratagem,
like ghost-white whales,
lay heavy on my mind.

Sleep? It was not fitful,
the software’s call and beck,
It’s lure of parametric bliss
albatross around my neck.

II.
This ship of fool sailed on.
A path was not the way!
An offset plane
was to my gain
and I was tricked to stay.
The piper wants his pay.

To model and dimension
calculate and reference too.
Now rest my brain an hour or three
was all that I could do.

A Boolean add,
and now subtract
with tables to control.
OOTB
variables
now put me in the hole.
(I tried to change their role.)

III.
Red star, (or point), at morning
doth crow part builders warning.
It modeled the same.
No explosion came.
I reckoned myself
ahead in the game.
A bitmap was made
And I staked my claim.
The structure alas
would never regain.

The drawing seemed to know it.
The listing tried to grow it.
New rules were applied
To styles at my side.
I shot like a stripe
to the end of pipe,
swap it in in plan,
apply rules in profile,
THE DANG THING WILL NOT SHOW IT!
Boy, did I ever blow it!

Here’s news for you if King or plebe,
I wrote this through a sleepless night.
If I were from the planet Zeeb,
Part Builder be my Zeebenite!

Should you make AU 2008 I'll spot you a beer - and it need not be at the AUGI bash!

There are those in the other spheres of Deskery that grok Partbuilder, but for we Civils, PB is the field of alchemists and necromancers.

I could see an entire AU 2008 Power-track on the subject - and I'd sign up!

grok on bro! If I were the King of Mars, I'd commission a new and improved
PB for us all. Your choice of words suggests we share a common thread...
unfortunately, it seems to be unraveling and destroying my sweater.

I'm reminded of some famous guidelines;
1.) A tool must be safe to use.
2.) A tool must perform its function efficiently unless this would harm the
user.
3.) A tool must remain intact during its use unless its destruction is
required for its use or for safety.

Sound familiar?

How do you get a part that seems to "jump through all the hoops" in the Part
Builder to have a linework representation in a drawing? Does said linework
somehow relate to a Top Plane (do I have to use one?)? Can OOTB variables
(like SVPC) be used to my own will (as pipe diameter, for instance)? What
Type, Subtype and shape should the final setting be for a structure like a
Flared End Section? Can I "steal" variables from a junction structure for
use in what I'll save as an Inlet-Outlet structure?

I just downloaded a "vault" part from the Autodesk site that was created by
Mr. Zeeben. Part Bulder says it has errors (I think this has to do with
using the SHBW variable in a calculation). I cannot get it to display in my
drawing(s) either!!! Furthermore it causes my C3D session to crash upon
exiting the drawing. This suggests that my parametric part might have been
okay, just that I don't know how to get it to display. It and all it's
sizes did appear in the parts list... just wouldn't appear in the plan,
profile nor model (this seemed inconsistant, sometimes "nothing", others
cylinders or a 3D eccentric manhole... depending on what styles I fiddled
with).

If you've got answers, I'm recreating the darn thing now. I'll be waiting
with baited breath (or breath that smells like live bait)!

fraid I am not of much help on those questions yet. I have only hacked my way thru adding some custom pipe sizes I needed.

I was looking forward to you wingwall. Maybe next Christmas they will be in my Christmas sock at the end of my bed.

Head wall, wingwall, inet, outlet are all part of stromwater. They should be standard out of the box in civil3d.
