This does not seem to be working in 2013 when the profile is a reference.

Any ideas?

If it helps any, I can replicate this.  Seems to work fine in 2012.

Profile Linetype generation will not work for "surface" profiles that are data shortcutted.

The surface profile needs to be created in the drawing that contains the profile view.

Its okay to dref design profiles though, jsut not surface profiles. You will also notice that surface profiles that are dreffed are static and not dynamic! Not sure if this is how autodesk intended the workflow to be though.

DRef surface/dynamic profiles are treated as static in the drawings in which they are referenced and that is the expected behavior. That said, if the surface is updated and references are synchronized the profile will update.
