Boy, that makes me feel good about the 3-year renewal they talked me into! Maybe it is time to make a statement even if it means switching to an inferior product. Problem is that Autodesk would probably just buy that one too.

Well I'll make a statement, I work for a National Survey Firm and we will not be upgrading to Civil 3D, due to its total lack of survey functionality, project management, backward compatiblitity, and awful bugs. And when we do our upgrade it will be Carlson that we go with.

This is unfortunate for me, as I have spent a lot of time learning 3D thorugh reseller training, onsite training and AU classes, just to get a grasp of the software and at the same time make it work well with others, since numerous clients still request LDD compatiblitity.

And as far as requirring subscription clients to upgrade within 90 days that's just toltal BS, our projects dont lend themseleves the time or money to upgrade on a yearly basis and not be forward or backward compatible.

    Bye Bye Adesk :robottongue:

And I've recently been informed that Autodesk's new policy is that, if you are on subscription, you MUST upgrade to the latest version within 90 days of its release.  That means that anybody who is on subscription but NOT on C3D 2012 as of July 2011 is in violation of their subscription agreement, and can face lawsuits and fines by Autodesk.

After reading all 27 pages of the Subscription agreement, found on the Subscription Center, I could find NO mention of this requirement. If this truly is a policy, wouldn't you think it would be spelled out in that agreement? And even if it IS a new policy, Subscription Customers are STILL allowed to use any of the 3 previous versions for which they originally were licensed.

I just had a long conversation with my reseller, a good knowledgeable one. He says that in addition to allowing the 3 previous versions Autodesk will now allow you to run any version you have previously owned. It doesn't come automatically with your Auth code or License file. But you can request it and be able to run up to either the number of seats you previously owned or the number of seats you currently have on Subscription, whichever is smaller. So that seems to be going in the opposite direction.

    Sinc,

What do you think the phrase "MUST upgrade" means? As far as I can find out you'll still be able to run the previous 3 releases and can now run any version you ever owned. Forcing us to install the latest release would be inconvenient. But we could still keep using whatever release we wanted.

I've been disgusted with Autodesks Subscription policies for the last few years. I understand that as a business they want a profit. But it feels more like they're trying to punish loyal customers rather than help them.

It looks like it may be a misinterpretation of the License and Services Agreement:

    http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/2012-design_suites_lsa-english-us-canada.pdf

If the license is upgraded outside of subcription, then the previous version has to be removed within 120 days of receiving the new version. Since Autodesk has 30 days to get the upgrade to you, I think that that's where the 90 days comes from. In the LSA it explicitly states that the requirement does not apply to subscription holders.

Upgraded to the new service pack, the peekaboo single line text editing problem is gone, but I still have the disappearing cursor trick happen all the time.  And the program crashes during closing of a file - routinely.  It was bad enough I had to wait months to be able to edit a tiny piece of single line text easily, but to still have a disappearing cursor in the drawing window is really really incredibly frustrating.  Boo.

    Hi Carol,

While the disappearing cursor is a bit annoying, it's far from being a show stopper. Did you see the earlier posts on how to work through this without having to shut down C3D?

    Jeff,

I have read several posts on the disappearing cursor and have found countless things people have tried. However, none that we have tried worked besides restarting C3D. Which solution(s) have you had success with?

Thanks. The last straw I grasped at based on a forum post was to turn the Viewport Control (VPCONTROL) off...lol.
