Autocad Civil 3d 2013 & Windows 8

Hello,

I would like to post the probleme autocad civil 3d and windows, i try to install it but during the installation wizard "framework 4" the process stopped and the installation wizard crash

can anyone post a solution for this problem

Civil 3D 2013, or any other previous version, was not designed for, and is not supported on, Win8 !!!!

Hello,

After using Windows 8 more than a month I had a lot of problems with a different kind of software. The changes which have made Microsoft are quite serious. Don't even understend why they call it Win 8... 

So we must be patient 🙂

As I say before I did few things I’ve found here and I am positive that this may help to some people.

I hope no one will be angry, I just want to help.  

So  there it is:

1. PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY SET TO WINDOWS 7 IN PROPERTIES WHEN RIGHT CLICKING ON THE ICON.
2. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 Service Pack 1.
3. I also used the rest of the things “Xv15” suggested. May be they are helpful too 🙂

Still waiting for a patch from autodesk for Civil 3d.

They knew about Windows 8 a long time ago.

Fortunately I run my Civil 3d in hyperterminal (Windows 7 in hyperterminal) on my Windows 8 machine with no problems whatsoever.  Hyperterminal comes with Windows 8 - you just have to load it from "turn windows features on and off".

I think you'll have a lot of waiting to do. But that's a very good tip. Some people are stuck in the middle because C3D isn't Win 8 compatible but they've been given new computers with Win 8. If you're a large enough organization it isn't a problem. You can get the older OS loaded. But the smaller shops can have trouble.

I work for a government organization and we currently are running 7 licenses of civil 3d and a few regular autocad machines.  The IT department wants to upgrade all machines to Windows 8.  I am currently the only one in our department running Windows 8.  I have been asked to purchase an upgrade (with subscription) for our licenses but will not until Civil 3d has compatibility with Windows 8.

That's a very sensible position. You must work for a progressive government agency. Here I'm one of the few running Win 7. Most are still on XP!

Why is it everyone expects Autodesk to release a patch for their products, so they will work with a new OS? Why aren't they all complaining to MS for releasing on OS that is not compatible with their current software? It seems to me that MS is the company that dropped the ball on this, NOT Autodesk.

Just my humble opinion.

Such is the way software and technology is today.  The only thing that does't change is that things will change !  People that make the OS software will keep changing to make a better product (profit) - the same as Autodesk.  Both parties need to be compatible on their upgrades to keep up with the consumer needs and wants.

P.S. - I have worked in Linux, HP Unix, and Apple OSs as well as all Windows operating systems.  I started out working on computers with no monitors - only typewriters, card punch, verifier, sorter and collater !

I am also running ESRI ArcMap 10.1 and Cartegraph as well as all of the other current software (Microsoft Office, Word Perfect, Adobe Pro, etc.) with no problems in Windows 8.

I believe that MS feels that it's up to the software companies to be compatible with them. Autodesk just doesn't patch old version for new OS's. They're about to release 2014 are working in 2015 and are probably throwing things around for 2016. Plus they want everyone on Subscription so you'll automatically get the upgrade.

In the way-back when Land Desktop was Softdesk (fka DCA) we would have to wait months and months before they would release a version that was compatible with a new release of AutoCAD. So this is how things seem to work.

The only slight fault I could point to is that MS and computer suppliers wont let small customers order a machine with the previous version on the OS. If you're big enough they will. Of course you're always free to buy a new computer and install a valid license of Win 7 or any other OS you want. Out IT still puts XP on most of the new computers. Only the AutoCAD and ESRI users are allowed to run Win 7.

Yes, I know all of that, Allen. I've been here through all of the OS & Autodesk changes since DOS 3 and Acad 2.5. WHat bothers me though, is that right on the MS page advertising why you should upgrade to Windows 8, they say this:

"You keep familiar programs

Programs that run on Windows 7 will run on Windows 8."

So if they are going to make such claims, then it is THEY who should be making sure it is a valid claim. In the case of C3D2012 & C3D2013 it is not.

Yes. I knew you knew all that. I was just adding to the comments. After seeing that from MS. I'll have to place some blame on them. Users may have been fooled by that in to thinking 2013 would still run. Actually is does still run, just not well, and it seems that some people have managed to develop the correct incantations to be able to use it.

It's a bit unfortunate that in order to use Civil 3D and it's predecessors well. You have to train yourself in computers management, computer components and maybe a little programming. But that's just the way it is.  Some users are just handed the program and told to make it work. That's when you have to buckle down and learn!

BTW. I've been right there with you. I started on an IBM AT. I believe it came with DOS. 3.0 and AutoCAD 2.6 (Release 8). We ran our calculation in another program and plotted them to a DXF file to bring in to AutoCAD.

Before that we used a Wang 720 Surveying System. It had an IBM Selectric typewriter with a solenoid board for output. Then plotted everything by hand.

At that time I was surveying in the field with a 100' chain, a Plumb Bob, and a K&E Transit.

A little OT but...

So was I. We used the K&E for Topo and stakeout. For traverse and long distance location we used a Wild T1 and an HP 3800 Distomat. The 100 or 200 foot chains were use for stakeout and in close locations with the Wild. All the traverse and location work was reduced with the Wang. Topo was plotted with Scale and Protractor. All great training for later work.

Us, too,Allen. Attached to that Wang was a dual 9" floppy drive and aan HP flatbed plotter that we had to manually change the pens for lineweights. A Final Map sheet only took ~8 hours to plot....

Back to MS and the compatibility claims, if you go to their "Is my program compatible" page and search for AutoCAD Civil 3d 2013, you will get THIS which explicitly states that it is compatible with NO action required. Of course, if you choose to look just to the right side of that where users have voted,you will see that there are 47+ votes for "Incompatible" vs 0 votes for....

WOW. That puts a whole different light on it. Not only does MS say it's compatible but they now also know that almost 50 users have said it's not. Compare that with Windows 7 - 8 votes for compatible and 1 for not.

So now it looks like people should be waiting for a patch form MS not Autodesk.
