Does the "AutoDesk Civil 3D Object Enabler" that came on the CD need to be
loaded if "AutoDesk Civil 3D" is loaded? (or is it only for vanilla Acad
workstations?)

I believe you only have to install it on stations where C3D is NOT
installed. If you install C3D next to LDT, LDT will have the ability to read
C3D objects automatically.
