When using the Associate Project to Current Drawing or Associate Project to Multiple Drawings command(s) where does this association data get stored?  When using the Multiple Drawings option I do not see the save time/date being modified on the individual DWG's.  I also do not note any file being modified under the shortcut working folder which would contain associated drawing names.  How does C3D "know" what project a file is associated with?

The files are stored within the directory of your Project files. You should set this each time depending on which project you're working on. Mine original was set to some place on my C drive, so I'm guessing that's where yours is as well.

Can you explain what that means?  Is it where the .dwg is saved or where the Data Shortcuts ( .xml ) are saved?  Or somewhere else?  Is it one of the file paths in Options > Files?

In every project file you should have one called Design. (IMO) Set this folder as your working folder from the Right-click menu in your toolspace on the Data Shortcuts line.

From there you select New Datashortcuts "Project Folder" - I use my Project#_DS as mine and this will be created whereever you "Set" your working folder to be. In this case if you selected the "Design" folder within your main Project directory structure your files will be saved there accordingly within the folder Project#_DS

The Associate Project to Current Drawing should make those datashortcuts available for use for that drawing. The Multiple drawings option I assume will do it for everything is open. I simply don't use that one for obvious reasons.

The multiple drawing option associates the project to all files in a specified folder.  That can be useful.

So if the drawings are not modified to save this info, and no files in the Datashortcuts "Project Folder" are modified to save the info, where is it saved?

Yes - that is the question.  Can somebody from Autodesk address this question?  Hopefully you know how it works since you wrote the program . . . 

Is the information stored in Alternative Data Streams or something along those lines ?

I know that this doesn't solve the question in any way, complicates it in fact. But if the programmer decided that it might lead to confusion if all the file dates were changed to that date and time. It's quite possible that the routine was written to preserve the original file date and time.

Well I might have to take back my statement about the file time stamp not changing.  I just setup a test and using the Associate Project to Multiple Drawings did indeed modify the drawings selected.  This was not the behavior I observed the other day however I will have to look back into that.  If the file itself is changed then that seems to answer my original question.

On a side note I did take a look at alternative data streams and there are not any attached to the DWG files so that is not the answer.
