average slope calculation

It would be nice if autocad could generated an average slope calculation table.  With elevation, length, of each contour, total length, and then show average slope in percent with the math shown. This is a requirement of Santa Clara county. I do not know if other counties have this requirement, but if they do it would be a big help for me and others if AutoCAD did this.

Thank you,

Roger

Where's the math you mention?

I'm a programmer, not an engineer, so please forgive my question. What are you wanting the slope of in the report?

The reason I'm asking is we are working on a slope reporting application for existing lanes along an alignment that gives edge of pavement elevations, crown elevations, and lane slopes at specified stations.

" length, of each contour"

And I thought people around here were loony! All we have to show is a slope map with ranges. The higher slopes are either partially or fully deducted from the lot area.

Roger,

Could you post a small example of what you are looking for?

It is a relatively simple but time consuming exercise which requires the designer to measure the plan length of contour lines on a parcel of land..

The maths then amounts to :

S= 100 * I * L /A

Where

S = Average slope

I  = Contour interval

L = Total length of all contour line on parcel being considered

A = Area of subject parcel

Obviously the contour intervals have to be constant for this to work properly.

Here's an option I created, if you don't want to wait for Autodesk: http://blog.civil3dreminders.com/2011/07/average-slope-by-contour-lengths.html

I'll be up in the bay area in a couple of weeks if you want an in person demo.
