It would nice if you could set the object layers to the current layer. That way when you're adding labels, you can make sure they are on the correct layer, and if you have labels that label multiple objects you can put the label on the appropriate layer.
Our office uses a system that has most of the style layers set to 0 and most everything else (color, linetype, etc) set to 'By Block'. And having it so that you can have the object placed on the current layer would be a great advantage to our system.
