Computed HGL vs. Straight line HGL

When viewing the hgl in the profiles, there is an option to show either the computed HGL or the straight line HGL.  what is the difference between the two?

Also, the generated report seems to be showing the value of the straight line hgl.  Is there a way to change this so that the output shows the computed hgl value?

Thanks for the help,

Hi Ryan,

Typically, most of the propriety software plot the HGL in the profile plot by connecting the Max HGL computed at the nodes by a straight line which is shown in SSA by selecting Straight Line option.

However, SSA has this advance option of plotting the HGL or water surface along the pipe/channel over the simulation time by selecting the Computed Line option as you animate the profile plot.

SSA will report the Max HGL computed at the nodes in the reports. The computed line in the pipe/channel can be seen by animating the profile plot from Output | Output Animation and you can also record the animation.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
