Civil 3D is basically LDD/civil design/survey (most features) all wrapped up in one standalone dynamic package. Civil design is just the alignments/profiles module used with LDD that can't be run on it's own.

You're not comparing apples to oranges. Civil 3D is a standalone
program. Civil Design is an add-on to Land Desktop, so you're getting
functionality of both programs.

There are still things that Land Desktop with Civil Design can do that
Civil 3D can't. For example, try and find the Hydrology or Sheet
Manager functionality in Civil 3D. You can't, because it's not there.

But one day..... 😉

Ick. Surely you can think of better thing that are missing. Say, Survey?

Would you really want either of them in their current state?

Survey is yet another add-on for Land Desktop, but you knew that
already. And c'mon, if you're not using Survey to balance your
traverses or do automated linework, what's the point? I was ATTEMPTING
to compare apples to apples. You know, Land Desktop + Civil Design
when compared to Civil 3D doesn't even take Survey into effect.

They might not both be complete, but it's headed in that direction.
I've yet to install the next beta, but only because I haven't had time.
It's sitting on the external hard drive on my desk waiting on me.
I'm doing a Map 3D class this week, though, so I won't get to look at it
until next week (providing my AutoCAD level II class stays as empty as
it is at this moment...)

I need to talk to you anyway. Off-line. Shoot me an email when you
get a chance.
