unable to edit mtext from version 2012 after opening in 2011

I receive the message "the text contains new formatting and cannot be edited by your current MTEXT editor.  I know someone else has seen this...

Did you export a file to the 2011 version from 2012? Civil 3D is not backwards compatible.

Hi Jim,

I came in this AM and opened the file I have been working in in 2011 and then realized I had clicked the wrong icon.  I have know idea if this is the reason why but I note that the mtext in my layout view gives me that message when I click to edit.  I wondered if the two events were connected since I wasn't having any issues yesterday.  *However* I just realized I had been "playing around" with autocad and started using the command MTEXTED and used the value "OLDEDITOR".  I think this may be the problem!  To undo this, shall I  put "neweditor"?  I tried "1" and it did NOT work!

The setting you want is internal to replace the oldeditor setting.
