surface data shortcut not update

either I found a bug or I am doing something wrong.

Main drawing with corridor & corridor surface.

Create data shortcut to second volume drawing - EG & corridor surface. Create volume surface between 2 & get volume.

Revise corridor surface in first file.

Open volume file - Syncronize and rebuild volume TIN - No change to cut fill volumes.

Open first file - see no evidence of data shortcuts under general edit data shortcuts.

Explorer - no evidence that the xml file was updated i.e. old date.

2008 sp1

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Am I missing a step here?

I haven't experienced any problems. There would not be an updated in the
XML (I don't think), as the chance was in the DWG containing the surfaces.
The XML would not have to change in that scenario: It still points to the
same surface in the same drawing.

Have you rebuilt the volume surface?

You might want to get you volumes for the corridor, under sections>>Compute Materials

I have just encountered a similar problem. Edited surface (built from corridor) in corridor dwg. Opened interesection dwg (which uses the corridor surface). Link broken.

Seems to be how a surface from corridors function. Too much "messing" with the corridor causes problems on the shortcuts.

Why is there not a field in the surface properties of a shortcut reference that allows you to change the location or re-link to the reference?? Once the surface is imported from the .xml file, you are stuck with that embedded handle in your dwg!

I'll second this.

This is, in my opinion, a potentially HUGE issue that seems to be easily
corrected.

Vault is not a realistic solution for everyone..........period.

ahmen on the vault not being for everyone! Been there, tried it quite extensively. A few webcasts ago, there was a poll on the use of vault. Very FEW are actually using vault.

Sorry Wedding, I probably will still come to your AU class!

I would if it were just a simple road corridor. This a shopping center with the corridor used only for the spine. The rest is grading features for buildings & parking lots.

I am also having odd results with the surface volume calc as well. I ran it, then made changes to corridor, came back into the function and the volume calc was gone. I thought it was supposed to stay and update? I just re created for that plot.

I am trying to learn one thing at a time. Since it is just me, my self, and I, I was starting with shortcuts. I am leaving vault until later.
