Hello, It is me again trying to make a drawing usable for a client.
I was required to make softdesk points out of cogo points, okay. But now I need to figure out how to make them all lay at zero elevation. Nothing in the Point command convertpointstosoftdeskpoints mentions anything about: flattening points to zero, and even though I gave a specification to 2 precision in elevation, and picked an 'x' point display style, it spit out elevated softdesk points that cannot just be altered in properties, a 3 precision in elevation, and an actual '.' for the node.
And then also, there is a requirement to make sure all blocks have no forced colors.
Although I am pretty sure I have this covered...is there a way to just do this in one fell swoop?
And why does that even matter?
And, in defense of my ridiculous ignorance, let me just say that we have done all sorts of drawings for all sorts of firms,
and this is the first time that a client has asked us to go so far in modifying our native drawing. They say they have R2010.
let me first tell you that I am little appalled by the request you got. I see no point of making points go to zero elevation as they will be pretty useless like that. Civil 3D allows flatting points to 0 or any other elevation in Surface Style>points tab (3D geometry).
In any case, I think there may be one way to do flatten points globally. If you select one point and use SelectSimilar command to select all points you may go into AutoCAD Properties and change the Point Elevation from *VARIES* to 0 in there. You may also change other properties while there (layer, color, etc.).
That is just it...I tried that. I put in 0 in the z value, and once i click out of that it converts back to *varies*. They are locked at their z elevation and how can I overwrite that? Basically what we are being asked to provide is a cartoon.
Can you post your file?
It seems as if not. It is too big of a file even after deleting the surface and a whole bunch of other things from a 'saved as' drawing, and even zipping it. I cannot change them all at once but I can change them individually with a match properties, but oh the lameness, the lameness of clicking thousands of times, I may just turn into a zombie.
Are they Survey Points, brought in through the Survey Database? If so, you need to unlock them first on the Survey tab in Toolspace.
Yes, they were survey points brought though the database.
I unlocked them in the drawing, created softdesk points,
and still it would not allow me to select them all at once and change their 'z' value.
But, still, thank you.
Have you tried to place the points into a new drawing file using the un-converted Database, then make the elevation change to the points in C3d before your conversion to to Sofdesk points?
I think you will have what your looking for if you go this route.
Well, I have tried manipulating the input in settings create soft desk points, and part of that was: point style, and the point style I chose was set to flatten to 0 elevation. I also set precision. And etc. And none of this affects the output. Even the scale they come in is wrong.
And how much work am I supposed to do in order for these people to have the drawing the way they want it? How much time is my boss willing to pay for me to get this figured out for them? Seriously, we have never been asked to modify our drawings to such an extent. Isn't there a way I can just say 'export' everything into a 2d cartoon only?
Even when I save to an ACAD drawing, sure it simplifies the surface to 3d polylines, but I still have to go through and flatten all the 3d lines and polylines that used to be survey figures or feature lines in the native file. Sometimes our drawings are huge and it takes half a day just to do that. It should not be such an effort when survey firms, architects, engineers and all the other related industries are always swapping drawings.
Additionally, it always turns out that it was something so ridiculously simple that I just didn't know about because I have never had to do it before. I am looking for that simple. Please let it exist. A universal setting I am not aware of? An add on?
Thanks for hearing out my frustration. Apparently I should invest in some more intensive workshops.
But meanwhile I am trying to get these people what they want...thank goodness it is Friday.
Do you have access to LDC (do they?) If you do, why not try importing the point blocks into your dumbed down version from an ascii file? That should bring the points in at 0 elevation as AEC point blocks (if you've set it that way in the points management menu). If they have LDC, they can import them. If they don't have LDC, what do they need the points for anyway? They could see them if the had the correct object enabler.
