Export to AutoCAD - choose the appropriate version.

But remember this is a one way street - there will be no Civil 3D objects for you to use if you reopen this drawing so exercise caution when sharing drawings that contain C3D objects.

Enabling proxy graphics may be an option but I've never tried this so can't explain any more

The Export command saves a copy of the drawing, which you can provide to other users or use but it does not affect the original Civil3d drawing.  We often use the export drawing to make a "pretty" version with objects flattened and some of the C3D objects cleaned up.  We send this file to architects and other engineers who need to see how our design relates to their work.

All Civil3d objects are supposed to export - but there are often issues.  Locked objects - especially cogo points don't export properly as far as I know.

You can open the exported file in Civil3d, but there will not be any C3d objects in it.  Everything is exploded down to dumb linework, and it isn't coming back.  Of course your original drawing is still available so you can go back to that.

Nope - you'll probably have to do some cleanup in ACad, trimming contours etc.

Indeed - I meant that if the OP receives the drawing back with additional info added by a third party he won't have access to the C3D objects (as they won't exist). He will then have either Xref the drawing or copy the added content back to the native C3D model drawing.....

Without converting anything, you may try this solution:
