polyline elevations do not match the listed output in a strange way

When I  change the elevations of polylines through the properties panel, the elevations of these lines do not match the listed elevations. Interestingly, every time I change the elevations in the properties panel the difference between the successive elevation changes is added to the elevation output in the list report. It works for positive and negative elevations. Crazy, huh? Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Won't be able to tell you much without knowing what version of CAD you're running. Have you tried just saving and closing and trying to repeat the strange behavior? What are you using to generate the list with elevations?
