pdf report writer by NovaPDF ?

On all our new machines (reformatted here at the office) that contain Civil 3D 2012 have a printer device listed as PDF Report Writer. It's by novaPDF. I can't figure out where this came from. Does it come with Civil 3D? Does anyone else have it? Just curious, because it is a 'pay for' item and we don't want to have it on our machines if we didn't buy it or otherwise have rights to use it. We're not using it anyway, so we could just remove it, but I'm just curious where it came from.

Hi,
No it does not come with Civil 3D.

To print PDFs from Civil 3D, use the DWG to PDF.PC3 "driver"... this one come from C3D (AutoCAD based apps).

Thanks,

Yes, I'm aware of the DWG2PDF that comes with AutoCAD. It's just curious that this NovaPDF Report Writer is on all of our Civil machines. I was just making sure it didn't come with Civil 3D... I didn't really think it did, but ....

We'll just remove it, but we need to investigate some more, I guess, just to figure out where it came from.

I wonder if it came with SincPAC.....

The mystery deepens. Our IT guy found the uninstall string.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\AWA\Support\PDF Report Writer\unins000.exe" /SILENT

I searched the registry and all the registry entries dealing with "PDF Report Writer" have Autodesk related entries.

At least on my machine.

What is the AWA in relation to Autodesk? The AWA\Support folder contains PDF Report Writer, RealDWG2012, Tools, and Video Recording folders.

it is MOST DEFINITELY tied to the Civil 3D installation of 2012....

this is the 2nd time it has shown up after a 2012 automated network install for me...  Botched Civil Install for some reason but Nova showed up in there with all the other 2012 things... didn't come in with the 2011 version though...

It is installed as a part of the 2012 Storm Sewer Analysis.

I know this is old but it appears this programs installs with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015. Now is this required? I don't know. and if you do use the writer it prints

"You created this PDF from an application not licensed to print to novaPDF printer..."

Not to happy with this unknown piece of software installed.

The disclaimer should not print from the Autodesk hydro apps but it should print if you use that driver in another program.

Go download cutepdf. It's free.

Yes I do have CutePDF installed. I was being asked by students how to get rid of the message.I did not know this "PDF report writer" was installed. then trying to figure out what installed it was the second problem. So if the PDF writer is removed will the autodesk Hydro app not work correctly? I know nothing of this app. I am just the IT lab tech keeping all the computers and students happy. If it is not needed I will remove it.

I have Civil 3D installed via the Infrastructure Design Suite Premium, but I've never seen this Nova PDF stuff.
We use Acroplot for our PDF writer.
Autodesk does supply a PDF writer called DWGTOPDF you can set up as a printer in AutoCAD (or Civil 3D), but I don't know if it's related to the Nova thing or not.
I wonder if the NovaPDF printer is installed with Microsoft products. I always see the PDF Report Writer as a printer option in Word or Excel....

As someone said earlier. It installs with Storm and Sanitary Analysis with is part of Civil 3D 2015 now. I just did a fresh install on a new systems as a test and sure enough.

The install for this is embedded in the Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) installer (e.g. SSA Stand-Alone 2016 x86.msi)

Probably required for the custom report writer which doesn't seem to use a print driver but just has check boxes for Excel and PDF. But if you don't need PDF from that command then it could be optional.

If you use any other application to print to this driver then you will get a license message since it is licensed only for SSA.

Options for disabling include modifying the MSI with ORCA to disable the CustomAction or uninstall after initial installation.
