offsetting alignments

is there a way to offset an alignment and still keep it an alignment with the same name? i've got a ditch alignment i need to move over a foot or so. i don't want to delete it and it's too long to grab grips and drag it into the new location.

None that I can think of. You can create an offset alignment and change its type to centerline, but it will be a new alignment with a different name. You need to recreate everything else; profile, corridor etc.

Just offset the alignment and then snap the original alignment to the new offset line. The length is going to change so you will have to adjust your profile slightly. I can't think of a simpler way to do it at least.

Depending on the shape of the alignment you might be able to scale it. Whether you'd get what you want would depend on more variable than we can cover here.

What your probably going to end up doing is offsetting the alignment, deleting the original one and creating a new alignment with the same name from the offset PL. Or starting with an Offset Alignment if you have a lot of curves.

Just use the MOVE command.
