Hello,

I am fairly new with autodesk and well I have an issue.

I recieved a drawing from a co-worker and opened it using c3d 2012, a window appears with the following text: This drawing contains newer versions of objests. to work with the newer objects in a limited fashion, enable proxy graphics and then rename the drawing in the current version. you can also export the drawing to autocad: however, be aware this permanetly converts the AEC objects to basic autocad objects.

I only have one option to close the window, and another shows up with the following: This drawing was created with a newer version of civil3d. all entities created by civil 3d within the drawing are in a proxy state. Additionally, all commands, settings, and displays of civil3d are disabled for this drawing.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Open the drawing and type 'OPTIONS' _tab OPEN AND SAVE and choose 'show proxy graphics'.

Ask to your co-worker to export the drawing to autocad.

ok, So the file is a dwg from autocad....is there anyways to import it to civ3d 2012 and build a surface, pull points off and create a tin file?

Civil 3D is NOT Backward compatible, whet this message is telling you is the drawing was created in 2013 version, so by opening the drawing in 2012 it get's rid of all styles and Civil 3D objects and dumbs the file down to AutoCad primitives and all intelligence is lost.

If you must carry out work in 2012 C3D and need to have Civil 3D functional (not just Autocad) then your only option is to get your co-worker to export the objects Landxml so you can import them. Simpler answer would be to install 2013 C3D if a collaborative work environment is needed.

Is there a way to find out what program and version was used to create the .dwg file?

Not that I'm aware of but in your case you mentioned your on 2012 and 2013 is the current version so it narrows it down to 2013.
It's a huge wish list item for many of us that have to collaborate with the outside world on projects.
Hopefully in a future release this will be possible.
