legal descriptions

Does anyone know if Civil 3D has the capability of helping to write a legal description if the bearing and distance are in the drawing? Or is there anything contained within CIvil 3d about descriptions?

You can find a parcel writer under Parcel in the TOOLBOX.  Toolbox is a tab on your Toolspace.  I cannot tell you any more than that because I use Dotsof't's Parcel command in Mapworks.  Terry Dotson's legal writer has to be the best of the best.

As Bill mentioned you can create a Legal Description from a Parcel using Toolbox>Reports Manager>General_Legal_Description_for_Parcels. Not aware of any other way to create a Legal in C3d, below is the sample output from reports.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION OF: SINGLE-FAMILY: 105

From the POINT OF BEGINNING; Said curve turning to the left through an angle of 27° 48' 32.3", having a radius of 125.0800 feet, and whose long chord bears S 03° 32' 10.2" E for a distance of 60.1145 feet to a point of intersection with a non-tangential line.

Thence, N 90° 00' 00.0" W for a distance of 125.2651 feet to a point on a line.

Thence, N 00° 00' 00.0" E for a distance of 60.0000 feet to a point on a line.

thence N 90° 00' 00.0" E a distance of 121.5573 feet to the POINT OF BEGINNING;

Containing 7257.35 square feet

thank you for the information.....do you know if a tutorial exists for this? What about editing the description. Is that possible? How do you get owners names, and street names incorporated into the description?

A third party option is Q-Legal found here.

Work great. It's also nice working on these in MS Word.

We used Budcad and loved it. However, with Civil3d and bit of setup with your phrasing files and such (this can be a little bit of a headache and requires some trial and error) you can create legals quite easily
