label common parcel line w/ span?

Can't find a way to label a common rear parcel line w/ parcel label "span" option.

For instance, using example below, how do I label a span from point A to D and another from A to G? (Problem #1)

Also, I know I can label A-B, B-C, C-D, etc. without a problem. But, when I try to label E-F I get a dist for A-B and a separate dist for B-F. The sum of the 2 distances add up correctly but how do I force 1 distance when the rear lines are offset from each other? (Problem #2)

A B C D
| | | |
|_________|_________|__________|
| \ |
| \ |
E F G

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My opinion:

There is no easy answer. (Type it in.)

I have similar problems with parcels. Additionally I frequently find that rounding by Civil 3D results in the summation of the distances not being equal to the individual segment lengths. Up to now, this has been a major factor in my not utilizing parcels. I am hoping that the enhancements in 2007 will solve these issues.

Maybe someone from ADESK can give some insight here. Someone there's gotta have a better answer than "type it in". At least some hope that you guys are aware of the issue and working on a fix. After all C3D is being touted as the best object based "dynamic" drafting program out there, right?

Seems crazy to not use the label routine on the backs of lots and just type some dumb mtext in. I have a lot of these same kinds of scenarios in most of my subdivision layouts.

Maybe someone else can give additional input as to how they handle it in their real-world experiences.

I hate to say it, but the Type-it-in answer is at least sort of correct.
There's no way to span the A-G distance in the OP. At least not if A-D is a
continuous segment.

EF is a function of spanning and flipping labels in the right ways. I've
done this multiple times and its a matter of turning on spanning and
flipping if necessary. If you can post a simple dwg, perhaps someone will
reply with a style that works better for you.

For some insight into why/how span labels work (and don't work) see my post at www.civil3d.com

Use the label line between 2 points method in the Line and Curve styles found in the Add Labels dialog box.
