help me kill this layer

We started our C3D template from the Autodesk supplied 'Imperial
Bylayer' and have slowly whittled away at the styles to make it suit our
projects. One nagging thing though, I can't seem to find the style that
references the default layers 'C-TOPO-MAJR' and 'C-TOPO-MINR'. I have
deleted all of the original surface styles, but still can't delete these
layers. Does anyone happen to know where these might be hiding? We use
a layer name that is similar, and would like to resolve the confusion
once and for all. TIA.

...just a thought ...

Do you have two other layers that you can delete? if so, delete them and then modify the undeletable layers into the ones you just deleted.

Would this help?

I am having the same problem but with different layers. I tried using the laydel command and got this:

"The following Layers could not be purged because they are being referenced by some object(s) in the drawing:

C-UTIL-STRC-LABL
C-ROAD-CORR
C-PROP-LINE"

Those are the only three layers I can't get rid of. Do you have any more ideas?

Make a copy of your drawing, explode everything numerous times. Then see if anything remains on those layers or see if you are able to purge them. You can also do a "qselect" and find all objects on those layers. This all may still not work, but you can try it. If you want to post the drawing, I can see if I can get rid of them.

The problem is that I have no objects, that I am aware of, in the drawing. I just want to delete all layers except 0 and defpoints. Here is the file:

I had no luck with getting rid of the three layers. Can you just rename the layers to layer names that you will use? I know this is kind of scary because something seems to be using these layers and it may still try to use them, but probably not after renaming them. This was already recommended by someone earlier in this thread, but I am not sure if you saw that.

Yeah I saw that earlier but was hoping to get rid of the layers. I guess I will just rename them unless someone else can figure out how to delete them. Thanks for your time.

The "C-UTIL-STRC-LABL" layer is in your "Data with connected pipes" structure label style.

The other 2 layers are designated in your drawing settings object layers
tab.

I stand corrected, I was also unable to get rid of those layers.

Check your "3D" view direction layers under your style display settings.

I just found some contour layers I needed to delete in my border only style under the 3D view direction.

Good luck,

Yes, this is a major hiding place for these unwanted layers, and also why I would be cautious about just renaming the offending layers and use them for other objects. Should the particular style be used at some point, there is an instant layer management problem needing a solution that has been demonstrated here to be quite difficult to resolve.
