grading surface crosses itself

I have seen this problem many times in multiple projects. Mostly on grading surfaces I have noticed that the surface has contour lines almost cross-hatching the real contour lines. Is there an easy way to correct this, or is this a program gliche? I have purged, audited and have the latest service packs installed.

Have you tried turning on the triangles or moving into 3d view, or object viewer. The problem maybe that it's adding vertices to a feature line where it crosses an alignment or other feature line making the surface go up and down from z=0

No that's not the problem. These lines only stretch for 1 or 2 contours. Not to z=0 elevation although I have had that happen previously. I will upload a quick pdf showing triangles and the contours. They are just perpendicular lines to the contours in random places.

You have contour depressions turned on. Edit the surface style and turn off
contour depressions. It's in the contours tab.

That fixed the problem. Thank you.
