feature line from finshed profile

Is there a way to extract a feature line from an FG profile?

Don't know of a direct way, but you can create corridor then export the centerline as a feature line.

Yes:

Corridor/Utilities/Grading Feature line from Corridor

then pick the centerline of your corridor, specify Crown if asked.

Most importantly make sure you put the feature line in a seperate site from the alignment otherwise it will drop to zero randomly. With SP2 it asks you for a site to put the feature line on.

I think I should clarify my question.

I want to be able to do this without a corridor. Just create a feature line from an FG profile sans corridor.

But thanks for the info about correcting the random "zeros" received when extracting feature lines from corridors. That one was driving me crazy.

Thanks again,

Rebecca

There is a routine in Profile Tools, Profile to 3dpoly, that will create a
3d pline from the profile at any spacing Profile Tools is part of the Road
Tools suite of routines that enhances Civil/Design for Road Designers.

you know, this would take an extra step, but really only a minute.

try this procedure:

then draw a feature line that connects the points.

Workarounds are one thing....making a feature line from a design profile is functionality that really should be there in my view....I am sure AutoDESK will fulfil this wishlist request.

I saw this at AU and seems to work for me. Copy the Finish Grade surface profile and create a style which shows the 3D Chainage in 2D, I usually turn off all of the other items. Isolate the profile and the chainage profile layer. Explode the line in plan view twice and then create feature line from objects.

Found it in 2009. Works very nicely. Create Feature Lines from Alignment. You should try it out.
