dref'd surfaces not available when opening drawing

Here is the setup: Drawing "Prop surface" has 2 dref'd surfaces (pr_parking and pr-park). These are not adjacent to each other, hence the use of 2 surfaces rather than 1, both relatively small. The Drawing "EX Surface" contains the existing surface. The 3rd drawing, "Exhibits" is simply that, exhibits. The "Exhibits" drawing has these surfaces dref'd into it, and not xref'd.

Here is the issue: When I open the Exhibits drawing, the surfaces are not available or found. Labels tied to the surface are still in the the drawing and show "???" for slope labels and such. If I go to each of the surfaces and sycronize them, the surfaces show up and labels become repopulated. This is the case in the Exhibits drawing and a second drawing "SWMP" that has the surfaces dref'd into it. This tells me it is not the Exhibits drawing or the SWMP drawing.

Why are these surfaces not initially being recognized and what is the fix?

Thanks

Jeff

First question, Is the Data Shortcuts "Working Folder" properly set?

yes, all I have to do in the exhibits drawing is - prospector ... surface ... sync each surface.

The working folder is correct and recognized.

Also, if it matters, ACAD C3D 2013.

Any Pipe Networks involved?

Yes, and those appear to be working ok. The pipe network resides in my proposed xref drawing (intended for base linework, but the network was built within it by mistake). So the pipe network is technically xref'd and dref'd.

That's why I asked, there are known surface synching issues when PN source dwg is both xrefd & drefd into same dwg.

Try unloading the PN dwg source xref>save>close>open.

Do things synch properly now?

It appears that it does.

So do I need to pull the pipe network out of that xref'd dwg into its own dwg, and simply d'ref the pipenetwork?

Yes, the only current workaround / solution AFAIK is to be sure the same PN source dwg isn't attached as xref and loaded (unloaded ok)

and also Drefd into the same dwg.

I usually Dref it into plan sheets etc. as there's usually more flexibility with labeling within the plan sheet etc. this way.

I will do just that.

I will let you know if I continue to have problems.

Thank you much!

Just as a follow up, this did fix the issue.

Thanks again!
