drawing command in progress.

Several times I've had this happen:

Document "Z:\ClientFiles\2005\S&K_C3.0.dwg" has a command in progress.
Hit enter to cancel or [Retry]:

This locks the program and I have to ctrl alt del. In most cases I've had multiple drawings open. In this specific case, I had just dragged a new alignment style from one drawing to the next with no problems. I then proceeded to enter the polyline command and got this message. It happened several times yesterday but all under different circumstances. This problem did not occur until yesterday after I had installed service pack 2. Any suggestions? Message was edited by: Toby McIntosh

It also displays the error: ARX_ERROR: eLockConflict after I try to complete a command once the above occurs

Hi Toby,

I have had the same thing happen several times.
You can get around this by using "saveas" and save over the existing file. this get you out of the "command in progress".

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. A time saver until it can be fixed I guess

Look in your project folder and find the .DWL file. This is a drawing lock.
Delete this and your problems should be cured.

I tried both of the solutions above, but could get neither one to work.

The SAVE-AS command does not work because I get the same error message!

I tried deleting the .DWL file, but got a message that I couldn't because it was in use by another program; so I used "UNLOCKER" to unlock it, and then deleted it. However, I still had the same error whenever I try any command (including SAVE-AS still!)

I seem to usually get this error message when I am working on the Settings tab, dragging styles from one drawing to another. I thought it was limited to times after I did a SAVE-AS and kept working on the drawing, however that was not the case this last time...

Try "SAVE" in the command line instead of "SAVEAS". Be careful that you aren't typing "QSAVE" or using the save icon as the save icon kicks in "QSAVE". Also CTRL+S kicks in "QSAVE" as well. For more info on this see Angel's Blog on Sept 26:

I have had the same error message and was not able to save (by toolbar or qsave). Typing SAVE worked for me.

Thanks,

None of these have ever worked for me. I always have to wait until an
autosave occurs, then exit out and open the .sv$ file.

Well it happened again... Yes! You're suggestion worked. Thanks!

If I try the File->Save again afterwards, I still get the "command in progress" message, but it did let me save the drawing - which was my main concern. So I then closed it and opened up again, and all was fine.

Thanks again,
Charlie

I have this happen every now and then too. It is more of an annoyance than anything else. If you just hit the escape key about 5 or 6 times it will get out of the command and you cn save and continue working.

I was in the same boat. typing in "saveas" didn't work...but typing in "save" worked about 3/4 of the times i tried it. Also...it's still stuck, but at least I saved it and can get out and reopen dwg

I have had this happen a few times when using 3d orbit. I wasn't able to invoke the save command (or any other command) but if I closed the drawing by closing the window (x at top right of window...whatever that is called) I got an option of whether to save or not. Might be worth a try before ctl-alt-del.

I am having the same problem. However, none of these solutions work. Except Ctrl-Alt-Del. What is this, why does it happen, and how do we stop it?

Try express/file tools/save all drawings

It only happens to me when I use the Orbit command. Not sure if that is
actually what is causing it, but I haven't seen it since I went back to
using the vpoint command instead of Orbit.
You can still type in SAVE, and then exit the program (most of the time).

When I was developing our styles (2007) this would happen to me 1-2 times a day. Most of the time I was only working on the settings tab of the toolspace.
