Are you saying the points ARE inserting at 0 elevation and you don't want them to?  Or that they you want them to come in at 0 and they won't?

Also, we understand the issue of not wanting to post proprietary info.

If you do ever want/need to post a file but need to deal with that issue, you could always create a file that has made up coordinates -- just so long as we are able to understand what you're asking.

thank you for your time.

we may have solved it on our end but autocad civil 3d is not reading the elevation(z) value from the file.

Thank you

If C3D is actually not getting the elevation from the file (as opposed to just not putting the point at the right elevation when it's drawn), then it sounds like an issue with your point file format.  See attached screenshot.

The simplest way to answer Jeff's question without worrying about posting proprietary info (I think that was you that said it):

  1. Save your file to a different, non-descript name.
  2. Delete all but one point (change the description if you want).  If it is an issue with the point file format as I suspect, that'll show up in the dwg file.
  3. Post that file along with a txt file containing only that point.

this is still a problem, we would like the info (3d point file) to be taken directly from our postgres data base. at this time we have to create .txt files whenever there are changes to data base. if anyone has any ideas please let us know.

What is a postgres data base?

How do the points look in the toolspace of C3D after you import them? Do they list the correct northing and easting, but a 0 or nothing for elevation?

Google told me that postgres is an open source SQL database program. This goes beyond my knowledge. It's possible that the database could be added to map.

But that's not going to create Civil 3D points.

Yes. AFAIK (and I have limited experience with SQL databases) your output to text file and import to Civil 3D is the best way. Just to check, by 3D points do you mean points that hold the elevation or point that are inserted at that elevation?

When importing points. Make sure the default Point Style or the Point Styles used in Description Keys are set to Use Point Elevation.
