dashed eg line in profile view

I have a small dilemma. On my profile I have my eg line which should be dashed, and it is sort of. Parts of it are dashed and other parts are not. Similar to what you might see with a dashed pline where the linetype generation is turned off. I have checked and rechecked the profile style and everything looks fine. In fact, I have the same style in use on another profile and that one looks fine. I have looked at the autocad properties of the profile and the linetype generation is set to "Yes". What am I missing to give me a nice clean dashed eg line? Thanks for any help.

I 've had the same problem with no solution. Being able to turn on linetype generation for the profile line would solve it but there doesn't appear to be a way to do it. It seems like it only affects polylines. I played with the "PLINEGEN" variable but it only affects new polylines. (by setting Lt gen on by default for all new plines)

The profile line looks fine sometimes and other times its solid because of the variable number and spacing of the vertices collected as it follows the surface. The short segments are too short for the linetype's pattern. If its only happening in a few spots you could set the profile to "static" and edit out some of the closely spaced vertices, not enough to change the profile, but enough to allow the linetype to generate properly.

I think it should work if you set your "PLINEGEN" variable when you set the drawing up prior to creating the profile view. I have been careful to do this and have no problems with the EG line.

I've noticed that once I set up my "plinegen" as stated it works just fine for all profiles created after that, but it does nothing for the old ones. Somehow my eg line in question has been set to static as well so I can't even rebuild it if you take my meaning. I guess I will just have to recreate the entire profile view to get the results I want. I don't want my eg line to be static anyway so recreating the profile view will fix both problems.

As Pesto suggested setting PLINEGEN appropriately would automatically apply
linetype as expected on all surface profiles that are dynamic.

If you have some surface profiles that are previously created with linetype
generation disabled - double click on that profile to see AutoCAD properties
dialog (please note that this is not "Profile Properties dialog of Civil 3D,
but AutoCAD properties dialog that you will see for any other entity such as
line/pline/curve). In this dialog - make sure linetype generation is set to
YES.

Rick - If you have a surface (EG) profile turned as static - you do not have
to recreate it to make dynamic! Select and right click on that profile to
choose "profile properties..." command. In the profile properties dialog,
Profiles data tab - look for a column titled "Update Mode". If the value in
this column is "Static" click on it to see a combo option to change it back
to Dynamic! This will make you to loose all your manual updates (if any) and
will reflect your surface elevations along that alignment. This procedure
with linetype generation variable set to YES all your EG (dynamic) profiles
will honour the line type.

However - for any reason if you have deleted that surface - and recreated
another one with the same name - previously created profile will still not
pick up that surface (as the internal object id would have changed).

Hope this helps

Thanks

Rick,

I believe it's the linetype scale value that needs to be set correctly
for your profile.

For details on the PLINEGEN setting for profiles, please see this thread:

The AutoCAD global PLINEGEN variable is not used; all (dynamic) profiles
will have their plinegen setting turned ON by default. You need only to
change the linetype & scale in the profile properties. If however, you
wish to turn it off, you can do so individually for each profile by
double-clicking on it to get the OPM window and turn off the setting there.

The whole dynamic/static thing was creating the problem. Somehow my eg line became static, and I couldn't do anything about the appearance of the dashed linetype. I recreated my profile which created a new eg line that was dynamic. My new dynamic eg line looks great thanks for all of the help.
