I have a drawing that started as a pipeline network and am trying to easily convert the pipes to polylines or something of the sort to export to shapefiles. any suggestions?

If all you need is a shape file, you can export to SDF then use the Map 3D feature Bulk Copy to make a SHP file. There is not tool that I know of to convert pipes to polylines.

Would Landxml export of the Civil 3d network work to then Importlandxml into another software etc.?

Structures and pipes can be reduced to AutoCad primitives by the "Export to AutoCad" command which exlodes everything and all inteligence is lost.

A bit of a round-about way - export the pipe network to Autodesk AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) and export to SHP from there.

Just explode it all twice. Once to turn it into a block and once more to turn them into polylines.
