civil 2010 and 2011 volumes of a stockpile by elevation

I have a few vary large stockpile that i need to het volumes of the stockpile at 1 meter intervals- is there a quick way of doing this, other then finding the area of each elevation and calulating the volumes.

Create an OG and FG surface. Create a volume surface that compares the two.

Use Bounded Volume (on the Analyze tab of Ribbon) and specify each incremental elevation as a datum. You will get a volume for each elevation.

You must press D (enter) before each datum input. So if you want 120, 121, 122, you have to press D <enter> 120 <enter> D <enter> 121 <enter>, etc.

The printout goes to the AutoCAD text screen, so you can easily Copy and Paste to your work processor or the Mtext for placement on the drawing.

Thank you- but I am having problems with setting the datum. I am not getting a prompt for the elevation, is there a setting i should be looking at?

Are you typing D for datum? After doing that you should be prompted for the datum elevation. That's the elevation at which the volumes are calculated.

Tim, is that feature available in 2010 and 2011? I can't remember.

Sounds like an inverted pond? Would stage storage help?

This feature is definitely in 2011 and 2012. I am not sure about 2010.

I blogged about this subject using 2012 and the volumes dashboard extension. You can use a similar method without the dashboard extension, it's just a bit more manual.
